The FireWise Program is a program designed to help educate members of the community of what to do to prepare themselves and property for a fire and what to do when you are threatened with a fire.

It also is designed to help members of the community to be informed of various Fire Danger Periods and what should and shouldn't be done within those periods.

The NSW RFS has many fact sheets, checklists etc available. They can be found  on the NSW RFS website.

The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period runs from October 1st to March 31st, however it may vary due to local conditions.
The 2014 Bush Fire Danger period has been brought forward to September 1 in Hawkesbury City Council Area.
Depending on the type of fire, a permit may be required all year round or only during the Bush Fire Danger Period.
If you are planning to light a fire in the open during this time, you will need a permit.
The link below will assist in understanding what to do before you light that fire.
